Aspendos is one of the most popular ancient cities in Antalya. This is no surprise, as Aspendos is home to the best open-air Roman theater in Turkey. It is so well preserved that it is now one of the symbols of Antalya's tourism industry. The Aspendos Theater was built by two brothers, citizens, as a gift to the city in honor of the gods and the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius (second half of the 2nd century). The theater has 42 rows and 20 sectors, a two-tiered stage, and a capacity of 8,000 spectators. During the Roman period, the theater was a popular venue for gladiatorial combat. We will also take a walk through the city itself. The market square (agora), monumental spring (nymphaeum), basilica, and aqueduct are all well preserved and impressive. Learn more about the history of Aspendos itself and its theater, the city's legends, and much more on our tour...
