 Many travelers and tourists have heard of the fiery Yanartaş mountain, located 70 km from Antalya near the village of Çıralı. Yanartaş (also known as the Chimera) has been known since the time of Homer. In his Iliad (VI, 179-186), he told the story of the hero Bellerophon, who defeated the Chimera and saved ancient Lycia from a fire-breathing monster. Today, this mountain is popular because gas emerges from beneath its rocks, which also burns. And this mountain has been burning for 2,000 years. Yanartaş is equally fascinating both day and night. During the day, the mountain offers a beautiful view of the sea and mountains, and at night, it offers a view of the stars. But the best time to visit is at dusk. At night, groups of curious tourists like to gather around campfires, fearlessly trekking 1 km along the rocky mountain road with flashlights to sit near the natural fires and admire the unusually bright stars.
