OLYMPUS is a mysterious ancient city, hiding many secrets and stories. In the distant first century BC, this Lycian city became "famous" for its patronage of sea pirates, who controlled the coast of Eastern Lycia and Pamphylia for 25 years, for which they were expelled from the Lycian League and banned from minting their own coins. But why mint anything when they could freely plunder? However, this couldn't continue for long in territory that already belonged to Rome, and in 78 BC, the Roman Senate sent an army to the region to combat the pirates. Today, Olympus is a popular recreational and social destination for today's youth. And for good reason. Firstly, Olympos is located in a small gorge; secondly, a mountain river flows through the city, dividing it into two parts; thirdly, there is access to the sea and a beautiful beach; and most importantly, all this is amidst the ruins of ancient Olympos. During the tour, we will visit all the most interesting and significant sites in Olympos. You will learn about the fate of the region's pirates, why the city was renamed Adrianopolis, what life was like during Byzantine times, and how the British discovered it in the 19th century.
