Cotton Castle – “Pamukkale from Marmaris”
Cotton Castle is a translation from the Turkish name Pamukkale. “Pamuk” means “cotton,” and “kale” means “castle” or “fortress.” From a distance, this creation of nature actually resembles a castle made of cotton or snow.
As you get closer you will see limestone terraces or travertines. They were formed during the deposition of salts contained in mineral waters.
Pamukkale is protected by the state and is also a cultural and natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The guide accompanying you will show you a place where you are allowed to walk directly on the travertines with bare feet. Here you can take stunning, spectacular photos, as if you were walking on snow in the mountains!
The water in thermal springs is healing and has a temperature of about 35 degrees. It contains carbon dioxide and calcium carbonate in large quantities.
Cleopatra's Pool - How to look 10 years younger?
No less famous than the travertines themselves, the attraction here is Cleopatra’s Pool. It looks like a large antique jacuzzi with mineral water.
According to legend, the beautiful queen herself prolonged her youth by taking baths here. If you wish, you can swim in it for an additional fee to travel back in time.
In healing mineral water you will see hundreds of small bubbles. Imagine yourself taking a dip in a champagne bath.
You'll pass fragments of ancient marble slabs and columns, and can linger on large rocks while enjoying the warm water. The maximum depth of the pool is about three meters.
Ancient city of Hierapolis
Over its long history, Hierapolis was destroyed several times by earthquakes, and each time it rose from the ruins anew. Now you can see on its territory an ancient amphitheater that could accommodate about 10 thousand spectators, the ruins of the Temple of Apollo and other preserved objects.
Also on the territory of Hierapolis there is a museum where the finds of archaeologists are exhibited, who still continue their work here.
An excursion to Pamukkale from Marmaris is a program that we recommend everyone to attend. One of the business cards of Turkey and the whole world will leave impressions for a lifetime. You will once again see what amazing miracles not made by hands exist on our planet. We wish you a great holiday and bright emotions!
