Pamukkale (meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish) is a natural site comprising 17 geothermal springs with water temperatures ranging from 35 to 100 degrees Celsius, as well as pools with dazzling white terraces formed from travertine (calcium-rich limestone). This site, along with ancient Hierapolis, was considered a resort for Roman nobility as early as the 1st century. The first buildings of Hierapolis date back to the 2nd millennium BC. However, a city named Hierapolis was founded in 190 BC by King Eumenes II of Pergamon (an influential ruling Greek dynasty of the Attalids in Asia Minor). In 133 BC, the city came under Roman rule. In the early 1st century AD, Hierapolis became famous among the Roman aristocracy as a spa center with the natural springs of Pamukkale. From this moment, the city's heyday begins... Our tour will cover the entire Pamukkale-Hierapolis area, visiting all the significant sites and landmarks (travertines, the ancient theater, the Temple of Apollo, the necropolis). Anyone can also take a dip in Cleopatra's Baths (ancient pool).
