RHODIAPOLIS (Rhodiapolis) is an ancient city founded by Rhodian colonists in the 8th century BC. It is named after its historical homeland - the island of Rhodes.
The first Rhodiapolis was discovered and studied by Austrian archaeologists at the end of the 19th century, but then they somehow forgot about it for a long time. And only after a forest fire that happened in 2000, the ancient city was discovered again.
This city was very famous among the cities of the Eastern part of the Roman Empire. And the thing is that in Rhodeapolis during the reign of Emperor Antony Pius (138-161 AD) lived one of the richest people of the Lycian Union, the head of this union and a citizen of Rhodeapolis - Opramoas (Opramoas), who donated large personal funds for the development of cities and social needs of the Lycian Union. So, in 141, he allocated his own money for the restoration of the cities of Lycia, which suffered after a strong earthquake. For example, 100,000 denarii were spent on the restoration of a theater in Mir.
In Rhodiapolis, the first library of the Lycian state was founded and the first Asklepion was founded - the temple of the god of health, in which people were treated and medical knowledge was collected.
On our tour you will learn the history of the inscriptions on the mausoleum of the philanthropist Opramoas, and we will also visit a beautiful theater for 1500 people overlooking the sea, the temple of Asclepius, the Byzantine church, walk along the Roman streets and try not to fall into deep cisterns)))
